A largely undiscovered gem, the gardens at Spencers are a feast for the senses. Renovated by top garden designer Tom Stuart-Smith, the estate and its gardens retain their original Georgian design. The gardens feature a huge ancient wisteria and arrays of ‘true blue’ Lord Butler delphiniums. Visitors can take lavender walks, discover the herb and wildflower gardens, and view the dazzling herbaceous borders and vibrant green clover garden. Roses are a speciality at Spencers and appear in abundance. The garden also features the oldest greenhouse in Essex, which is full of exotic species, while the woodland gardens in the valley of the young River Colne offer a cool contrast on warm days.
